A curvaceous chef, rival teammates, and the highest honor in NHL history – What could go wrong?
Dani: After eight years, opening and running a restaurant together, and countless conversations about the future, I was expecting a ring. What I was not expecting was my cheating boyfriend to not only break my heart but also yank my restaurant out from under me. Suddenly single, unemployed, and crashing in my best friend’s guest room, I need to overcome my heartbreak and build my life back from the ground up. A private chef gig with a beloved NHL team is a great place to start, but will my chemistry with not one, but two of the Viper’s starting lineup be my undoing? It certainly looks that way when HR implements a fraternization policy. Luckily, I’m driven, and I need this job. Not to mention that dating is the last thing on my radar right now, not that any Adonis-like NHL players would even go for a girl like me. Besides, people’s true colors are showing all around, from my ex and former friends to my new team, I can’t think about dating right now, I need to think about me. Surely for the sake of this new dream job, real friends, and a shot at building a life all my own, I can keep things on the right line of friendship with these two magnetic, complicated, and drop-dead sexy hockey players. Right?
Diego: I’ve been clawing respect back since I got drafted into the NHL. You would be too if your own family tried to blackmail you into making the most fatal choice a rookie can make. Now it’s almost a decade later, I’ve found my home on the Vipers and my temper has made me a legendary defense player. I could even keep my cool off the ice, as long as I didn’t have to spend too much time with my father or his slimeball brother, that was until I met Francois Denault. When he joined the team four years ago, it was hate at first sight. He gets under my skin, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t my personal mission to get under his. Now there’s no word on a contract renewal, my captain slot is in jeopardy and this might be my last shot at the Stanley Cup. To make matters worse, the misstep from college is back to haunt me, and I’m tied to my rival. A situation I’ve made fatal by trying to punch him out and then kissing him. At least there’s someone else who makes my heart race as much as the one person I shouldn’t want, but she’s just out of reach too. Stupid HR.
Francois: It’s not easy being hockey’s golden boy. Especially when you’re the only “out” player on the team. At least the fans love me when I’m scoring. Hell, even my own hometown loves me when I’m not publicly dating a man. I bet they’re thrilled I just got dumped, again. I can’t blame Cassidy. How many times can you dodge inviting your boyfriend to meet your parents before it comes out that your parents are just trash people? Even after all these years of therapy, I’d rather my exes think I’m the problem than admit that I can’t face my own parents. Worse, my parents will probably only remember I exist if I bring home the cup. Maybe it’s a good thing I’m going into this season single. Then I can focus on the only thing that matters, winning. If only the team hadn’t hired the most beautiful, funny, smart, and alluring chef to travel with us. She’s off-limits, for now. Which might be for the best since a fistfight turned makeout session with my arch-rival has me all mixed up in the head. Not to mention he thinks that us kissing impacts our game for the better, and he just might be right. Damn hockey superstitions. If I can just get through this season, maybe it’ll all work out.
